John Aldridge has claimed Jose Mourinho will “park the bus” when Manchester United take on Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.

The two north-west rivals are set to clash in what is expected to be a mouth-watering Premier League encounter.

United have had the bragging points against their local rivals in recent seasons, with the Manchester club winning the last four league encounters, including a 1-0 win at Anfield in January.

Those victories came under the stewardship of Louis Van Gaal, who has since left the Old Trafford club and been replaced by former Chelsea boss Mourinho.

However, former Reds striker Aldridge offered his thoughts on the controversial Portuguese figure ahead of the showdown on Merseyside.

“The fact that Jose Mourinho is Manchester United manager adds extra spice to a fierce rivalry,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column. “It also means that beating them would be even sweeter.

“They (Liverpool fan) can’t stand Mourinho, especially after the way he conducted himself in the games against us with Chelsea.

“He’s guaranteed a hostile reception and I think Mourinho’s tactics will be exactly the same as when he brought Chelsea to Anfield in April 2014.

“Mourinho is a defensive manager and he will park the bus and then try to feed off our mistakes by hitting us on the break.”

Liverpool have had an impressive start to the season, picking up 16 points from their opening seven league fixtures.

This despite the Merseyside club playing Arsenal, Tottenham, Premier League champions Leicester and Chelsea in their opening fixtures.

By contrast United have picked up 13 points, but did record a loss against their neighbouring rivals City at Old Trafford.
