Former England international John Barnes believes Liverpool new-boy Sadio Mane is the perfect Jurgen Klopp player.

The Senegal international put pen to paper on a lucrative five-year-deal at the end of June, and Barnes believes Mane is ideal for Klopp’s attacking brand of football.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s  Saturday Scoreboard show, Barnes described the qualities of the £35million signing from Southampton.

“I think he’s had a fantastic season at Southampton and he is a Jurgen Klopp type of player,” Barnes said. “If you look at what he (Klopp) did at Dortmund, he likes quick, counter-attacking, fast players.

“You don’t have to be the best technically, but you have to be fit, strong and quick. So he is a typical Klopp type player.”

Mane scored 12 goals in all competitions last season, and was integral to the Saints strong campaign that saw them finish sixth and qualify for the Europa League.

Barnes, who also played for Watford and Newcastle during his career, told talkSPORT that he believes Liverpool must improve from last year and is expecting to see just that.

“This year I’ll be more demanding.” Barnes said. “I didn’t get carried away when they played really well against Manchester City or Chelsea, and I didn’t get carried away when they played really badly and lost.

Klopp has been relatively quiet other than the signing of Mane, with goalkeeper Loris Karius and Schalke’s Joel Matip putting pen to paper on Anfield deals.
