Liverpool have been linked with a shock move for Manchester United’s Luke Shaw after the defender was publicly criticised, according to a report.

The Mirror claim Shaw could be a possible target for the Merseysiders after he has fallen out-of-favour with Jose Mourinho and was criticised by the United manager.

Mourinho blasted the left-back and accused Shaw of being reluctant to play through a pain barrier after he sat out Manchester United’s 3-1 victory against Swansea last week.

Shaw is believed to be upset by the public bashing and could look to seal a move away from Old Trafford in January with his relationship with Mourinho up in the air.

Liverpool are short on left-back options after failing to attract one in the summer and have utilised right-sided midfielder James Milner in the role so far this season.

Alberto Moreno’s form has been concerning for Liverpool and the Spaniard has been Jurgen Klopp’s second option in the Premier League since Liverpool’s 4-1 victory against Leicester City in September.

Therefore, Klopp may be interested in taking Shaw in January, though the report suggests it’s highly unlikely given a lack of transfer business between the two clubs in the past.

Shaw has made seven Premier League appearances this season, including six starts, despite suffering a horrific double leg break last season.

In other Liverpool news, fans have urged Giorginio Wijnaldum to stay injury-free ahead of his international clash against Belgium on Sunday evening.
