Daniel Sturridge is poised to start for Liverpool in their Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Saturday, Football Insider sources understand.

Sturridge is set to be paired with Danny Ings in a two-man strikeforce in the absence of Christian Benteke.

It will be only the second start of the season for the England international, who made his comeback from a hip injury in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Norwich. He played 63 minutes before being replaced by Adam Lallana.

Sturridge missed the Capital One Cup penalty shoot-out win over Carlisle in midweek but is set to go straight back into the starting line-up against Villa.

As reported by Football Insider, Benteke will be absent with a strained hamstring and will miss also not play in next Thursday’s Europe League clash against Sion.

The former Villa striker is facing a race against time to make the Merseyside derby that on Sunday week.
