Borussia Dortmund have rested their three top players against Schalke in Sunday’a Bundesliga clash ahead of the showdown with Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday.
Liverpool came away from Dortmund with a 1-1 draw and a vital away goal in the first leg of the Europa League quarter final and the German club have seemingly revealed their priorities for the remainder of the season by leaving Marco Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench.
The three star attackers have been left out of Dortmund’s huge grudge match with local rivals Schalke on Sunday and are among eight changes despite the German club still attempting to chase down league leaders Bayern Munich.
In a final snippet of bad news star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan returns to the bench after missing the Liverpool game through injury.
Munich sit top of the table and eight points ahead of their closest rivals Dortmund in second with six league games left to play.
Dortmund travel to Anfield on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie knowing that they must score to go through.
