Sadio Mane is the perfect fit for Liverpool because he is already tailor made for Jurgen Klopp’s style of play, according to his former coach.

Oliver Glasner, former assistant manager at Red Bull Salzburg, is well acquainted with the Reds recruit from their time in Austria together.

Mane has arrived at Anfield in a deal believed to be in the region of £34million, but Glasner has insisted the 24-year-old will have no trouble following Jurgen Klopp’s pressing instructions.

“He’s the type of player who fits perfectly in the philosophy of Jurgen Klopp,” said Glasner speaking to ESPN.

“He’s very quick. He has a fantastic mentality to work against the ball [and] play very high pressing.

“We always used GPS in training and afterwards the data [said] he was one of the players who ran the most in every training [session].”

Mane arrives from Southampton after 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions last season, but eyebrows have been raised at the fee Liverpool have paid for his services.

The Senegal international is the latest in a growing line of Saints players to join Liverpool in recent seasons with many of the current crop still attempting to live up to the price tag that followed them from St Mary’s.

However, Glasen is convinced Mane’s ability to press and endless energy will make him a certainty to repeat his Southampton form at Anfield.

He said: “He works a lot for the team in defence, which is very important for Liverpool. He’s used to doing this from Red Bull Salzburg.

“He wants to do this because he knows that he will profit, so then he can score goals and make a lot of assists.”
