Liverpool have agreed a £25million fee with Newcastle United for midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum – and Reds fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the transfer.
Sky Sports claimed on their website on Thursday morning that a fee has been reached between the two sides and he will now travel to Anfield for a medical.
The transfer would take the Merseysiders’ summer spending well beyond the £60million mark as Wijnaldum becomes the club’s second £20million-plus deal following the £36million capture of Sadio Mane from Southampton.
The 25-year-old Dutchman arrived at Tyneside last summer, but after impressing Anfield bosses with 11 goals and five assists in the Premier League, he is now on his way to Merseyside.
Liverpool supporters took to social media to express their views on the deal:
Hope to see Wijnaldum play in the middle. He’s great at playing out of midfield and creating space!

Good to see us adding more goalscoring players. Although, this also means I now have to learn how to spell Wijnaldum without googling.

The new Liverpool man will join Jurgen Klopp’s other major signings and current squad in America for the club’s pre-season tour.
Wijnaldum joins the club this summer alongside goalkeeper Loris Karius, defenders Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip, forward Sadio Mane and midfielder Marko Grujic as the club seek to keep pace with the free-spending Manchester teams.
