Liverpool have tabled an £11million bid for Borussia Dortmund sensation Christian Pulisic, according to a report.
The Liverpool Echo claims that Jurgen Klopp sanctioned the offer for the USA international attacking midfielder in an attempt to sign him before the transfer window shuts next Wednesday.
But it is said that the Merseysiders face an uphill battle to land the 17-year-old before the 31 August cut-off as the Bundesliga giants are unwilling to sell him this summer.
Nevertheless, Liverpool are prepared to wait to secure the services of the wonderkid, who has two years remaining on his current deal.
The 17-year-old was brought to Dortmund by Klopp in January 2015 and although the two only spent a short time together the German boss is keen to link up again with the American.
It is believed that the Merseyside boss has been prompted into making the move after Premier League rivals Stoke made a similar offer for the youngster.
Pulisic made the breakthrough to the first-team squad under Thomas Tuchel last season and went on to make 12 senior appearances, including a short cameo in the Europa League quarter-final first leg against Liverpool.
Pulisic, who does not turn 18 until next month, became the youngest foreigner to score in the Bundesliga when he netted against Hamburg in April.
He has been similarly precocious for the national side after he became the youngest player to represent the USA national team in a World Cup qualifier.
He also became the youngest player to score a goal for his country in the modern era, when he netted against Bolivia when he was 17 years and 253 days old.
In other Liverpool transfer news, youngster Taiwo Awoniyi has joined Dutch side NEC Nijmegen on a season-long loan.
