Liverpool are ready to monitor Swansea star Andre Ayew ahead of the January transfer window, Football Insider sources understand.

The Ghana international was targeted by Jurgen Klopp when he managed Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool are expected to be in the market for creative players who offer good value and are approaching their peak years.

Ayew, 25, has been one of the Premier League’s outstanding performers since moving to Swansea on a free transfer in the summer.

He has scored four goals in eight Premier League appearances – against Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle – and caused defences problems with his pace, power and movement.

Klopp accepts he will have to work within the confines of Liverpool’s established transfer commitee but dismissed any suggestions that it would be an issue at his opening media conference last Friday.

He said: “It was not a problem for 10 seconds. We talked about it, of course, but I am not an idiot.

“For me it is enough to have the first and the last word, the middle we can discuss everything. We only want to discuss very good players.”

Liverpool already have the likes of Roberto Firmono, Adam Lallana and Jordan Ibe competing for positions on the flanks but none have made convincing starts to the new campaign.
