Liverpool are poised to hold talks with the representatives of Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio, Football Insider sources understand.

The Merseysiders are interested in the Argentina international, 24, as they step up plans to overhaul a squad that finished sixth in the Premier League this season.

Benfica officials have flown in to the UK to discuss a deal with Liverpool chiefs.

According to Portugese newspaper O Jogo, transfer terms could even be finalised in the coming days.

Salvio, who has scored 13 goals from the wing for his club this season, has an impressive pedigree. He became Benfica’s record signing when he signed from Atletico Madrid in 2012 and has won five full caps for Argentina.
