Liverpool have had a £20million bid for Sporting Lisbon’s Islam Slimani knocked back, according to a report.

The Algeria international was in unstoppable form for Sporting this season with 27 goals and six assists from 33 league appearances and has caught the attentions of big clubs around Europe as a result.

Portuguese publication Noticias ao Minuto claim Liverpool are one Slimani’s suitors and have moved to tie up a deal for the striker.

However, their opening offer of £20million has been rejected by Sporting, who are said to be dismissive of any bid that comes in below their asking price.

Slimani is under contract with the Portuguese giants until 2020, but it is claimed the striker has a release clause of £24million in that agreement.

Sporting are believed to be willing to do a deal at that figure with one of the player’s suitors, who also include Arsenal and Leicester.

Slimani is as impressive at international at at his club, with 23 goals in just 43 matches for Algeria since making his debut in 2012.
