BBC pundit Garth Crooks has named three Liverpool stars in his team of the week after Jurgen Klopp’s side battled to a 2-1 victory against Chelsea on Friday evening.
A goal from defender Dejan Lovren and wonder strike from Jordan Henderson ensured that the Reds took away the three points from Stamford Bridge with striker Diego Costa scoring Chelsea’s solitary goal.
Lovren’s defensive partner, Joel Matip was named in Crooks’ side while Henderson was picked in the centre of midfield alongside his teammate Adam Lallana.
Liverpool have started the new campaign in impressive form and the Reds’ vital win over Chelsea has propelled them up to sixth place from their opening five matches.
They have picked up 10 points from their opening fixtures with three wins, a draw and one defeat.
Klopp was keen to reshuffle his Liverpool side after the Merseysiders finished in eighth place last season, failing to qualify for a place in Europe.
The German manager brought in six senior players, while he also allowed 14 players to depart permanently.
New signing Sadio Mane has hit the ground running since completing a £30million move to Anfield in the summer and he also played the full 90 minutes in Friday evening’s victory.
In other Liverpool team news, Jamie Carragher believes that the Reds can make the top four this season but ruled out a first Premier League title.
