Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo has revealed that star senior forward Daniel Sturridge has offered the most support to him while he looks to break into the first-team squad himself.
The youngster was recalled from his loan spell at Wolves in January, after showing promising signs with two goals and three assists in the Championship in 17 matches.
On his return to Anfield the 19-year-old winger was handed his debut in an FA Cup tie against Exeter, as the Reds juggled a mounting injury list and a busy fixture schedule.
He bagged his first and only Liverpool goal to date in a 3-0 replay victory against Exeter, and he went on to star in another nine matches for the Reds as the side focused on the Europa League final.
“It’s a hard one. I get along with everyone, [though] I’d probably say Daniel Sturridge has been really supportive since I came into the team,” said Ojo to Liverpoolfc.com when being asked to single out a senior colleague who has helped his progression.
“But everyone is supportive, it’s a great team to be with.”
Ojo is quickly emerging as a fan favourite due to his technical ability and dribbling in one v ones, and he is keen to show the fans more next season.
“My main focus is just to keep working hard, to keep my head down, and if I get more opportunities hopefully I can impress the manager,” he continued.
“I just want to kick on and hopefully get as many games as I can this season. I think last season was more of a taster but I think I’m ready now and hopefully if I get my opportunity I can take it.
“Last season, I was coming into the Premier League and hadn’t played in it before. But I think now that I’ve got the experience I know I can impact on games more than I did last season.”
Fellow wide-man Jordan Ibe left Liverpool for Bournemouth this week, which could result in more opportunities for Ojo to impress during the 2016-17 season.
The youngster has recently returned from the England Under-19s squad in Germany helping the Three Lions youth side make the semi-final stages, where they eventually suffered a 2-1 defeat against Italy.
