High profile pundit Jamie Carragher has claimed Adam Lallana has been Liverpool’s best player this season.
The 28-year-old was one of the Merseysiders’ key men in their 1-0 win over Watford on Monday night.
Having returned to the playing squad for the first time in almost two months, Lallana was called upon almost immediately as Philippe Coutinho limped off with a dead leg after 13 minutes.
He almost broke the deadlock midway through the first half too, as his dipping volley cannoned off the crossbar.
Emre Can bagged Liverpool’s winner in first half injury time as he netted a ridiculous overhead kick.
Lallana was eventually substituted four minutes from time as Jurgen Klopp bolstered his back line by bringing on Ragnar Klavan, but it took nothing away from his performance.
Carragher gave his verdict on Lallana’s performance as he spoke on Sky Sports 1’s Monday Night Football (Monday 10pm).
“[Lallana’s] been Liverpool’s best player this season,” he said.
“He makes other people play better, I think that’s a great sign as a footballer that you do that. He’s now providing that final end product.
“He’s got to go in the team [against Southampton] you have to take one of the central midfield three out, you have to, he’s just that good and that important.”
The 31-time England international was making his 29th league appearance of the season, and he has bagged seven goals and provided seven assists.
The result leaves the Reds in third and was a huge step towards them securing a spot in the Champions League places come the end of the season.
They are now three points ahead of Man City in fourth, and four ahead of Man United in fifth.
