Romelu Lukaku closed in on Jamie Vardy’s Premier League scoring record when he banged in the equaliser for Everton against Leicester on Saturday afternoon.
Riyad Mahrez put the Premier League leaders into the lead when he slotted in a penalty after 27 minutes at Goodison Park.
But Lukaku made it 1-1 just five minutes later when he slammed in a loose ball to maintain his outstanding recent run.
It was the seventh consecutive Premier League match in which Lukaku had scored and the eighth game in all competitions.
The former Chelsea striker has now scored 16 goals for Roberto Martinez’s team this season, including 13 in the Premier League.
Lukaku is second in the league scoring charts to only Jamie Vardy, who has netted 15 times in the English top-flight.
Vardy’s record of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games, established only last month, is now under genuine threat from the Belgium international.
