Sergio Aguero is on course to play for Manchester City in next Monday’s Premier League showdown against Arsenal.

A City source told Football Insider that Aguero returned to training on Tuesday and the club are hopeful he is now fully recovered from the heel injury that has sidelined him for the last four matches.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has always insisted that the injury, sustained in City’s 3-1 win over Southampton last month, was a minor one but that has not proved to be the case.

Aguero has been a regular absentee for City this season. The striker, who suffered a hamstring injury playing for Argentina in October, has missed 11 of the club’s last 14 games in all competitions.

With the match at Emirates Stadium not taking place until Monday night, City are confident Aguero will have enough time to build up his fitness and start the match.

Last season’s 26-goal Golden Boot winner remains their joint-top scorer with nine goals in all competitions this season – equal with Kevin de Bruyne.
