Manchester City are interested in Aaron Ramsey as they adjust their central midfield targets following the dramatic collapse of their move for Fabian Delph, Football Insider sources understand.

City are in the market for a central midfielder who will increase their home-grown quota and have added Ramsey to their list of targets.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team have also targeted the Welshman’s club colleague Jack Wilshere but Arsenal have no intention of entertaining any bids for the England international.

With Delph releasing a statement on Saturday confirming that he would stay at Villa just 24 hours after privately telling the club he was joining City, the Citizens are considering alternatives.

They have now turned their sights on Ramsey and could be ready to make discreet enquiries for the 24-year-old.

Ramsey signed a new £110,000-a-week contract last year on the back of the finest performances of his career.

Although he remained a regular starter when fit last season, he was pushed out to a right-flank role in the final months of the campaign to allow Santi Cazorla to flourish in a central midfield role.

The goalscoring midfielder is understood to have been disappointed with being played out of his favourite position, which could encourage City to make a move.

Arsenal are likely to demand upwards of £40million for Ramsey, who has four years remaining on his contract and has his peak years ahead of him.
