Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Football Insider sources understand.
The Premier League giants are set to make Ibrahimovic the best-paid player in Premier League history with a deal worth a sensational £350,000-a-week.
The brilliant Sweden forward is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain next month and has admitted that he has been contacted by interested Premier League clubs.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the 34-year-old is set to move to United, where he will link up with his former Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho.
The 20-times top-flight winners are confident that Ibrahimovic will become the first signing of Mourinho, who is set to be appointed the new United boss on Thursday.
United are ready to make Ibrahimovic, who will join on a free transfer, the highest earner in their history with a deal that reflects his status as one of the world’s most iconic footballers.
The package agreed in principle is understood to be worth £350,000 inclusive of salary, bonuses and image rights.
Ibrahimovic has scored a remarkable 50 goals in 51 games this season for PSG, including 38 in 31 Ligue 1 matches, more than double that of his closest rivals.
Despite now being in his mid-30s, Ibrahimovic said in March that he is “just warming up” and his agent Mino Raiola agrees that his star client still has much to offer at the highest level.
In other Manchester United transfer news, the club are still hoping to tie another veteran, Michael Carrick, down to an extended contract.
