Bastian Schweinsteiger has suffered another injury setback amid fears he could miss the rest of the season.

The Germany World Cup winner complained to medical staff of pain in his knee following Tuesday’s training session with the national side.

Schweinsteiger pulled out of Wedneday’s session ahead of Saturday’s friendly clash against England.

German media are reporting that Schweinsteiger caught an early flight on Wednesday morning from Berlin to Munich for a consultation with renowned knee specialist Dr Hans Moller-Wohlfahrt.

United now face an anxious wait to find out if Schweinsteiger is facing another spell on the sidelines.

The 31-year-old has only just returned to the team after missing two months with a knee injury sustained in early January.

Schweinsteiger has made three substitute appearances in recent weeks, including in last Sunday’s 1-0 derby win over Manchester City.

In other Manchester United injury news, Phil Jones remains sidelined with an ankle problem.
