Anthony Martial left Wembley on crutches after France’s 2-0 defeat to England on Tuesday night.

The Manchester United striker was filmed on crutches with his left foot in a bandage as the France squad boarded the team coach after the match.

Although Martial was smiling as he chatted to Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny, there will be fears that the 19-year-old striker could be set for a lengthy lay-off in what would be a crushing blow to United.

France manager Didier Deschamps did not provide much detail about the problem, which he explained was “a knock to the top of his foot”.

Martial has slotted in impressively at Old Trafford since his sensational deadline-day move from Monaco in the summer.

He started for France at Wembley on Tuesday and played 67 minutes in a left-wing role before being replaced by Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

Martial did not appear to be in any obvious pain when he left the pitch in what seemed to be a premeditated move.

The teenager had been a threat to an impressive England when he cut in from the left and came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half with one turbo-charged run.
