Anthony Martial has been recorded as the equal fastest footballer in the Premier League this season, according to EA Sports’ Player Performance Index.
Statistics show Leicester hotshot Vardy accelerated his way into the record books, after clocking speeds of 22 miles per hour over five seconds, as he helped Leicester beat West Ham 2-1 last August.
But Manchester United striker Martial matched Vardy’s top sprint earlier this month when Louis van Gaal’s side drew 3-3 in a thriller at Newcastle.
The EA Sports PPI is the Premier League’s official rating index, that measures a player’s contribution to his team using six key indices. The intention is to “remove any opinion bias and only work with proven statistical measurements” which become more accurate as the season progresses.
Leicester defender Jeffrey Schlupp, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, motors into third place with a marginally slower time of 21.9mph, with Tottenham’s Kyle Walker fourth.
Last season Wayne Rooney surprisingly was recorded the quickest player in the United squad, reaching a speed of 21.74mph during the 3-1 win over Aston Villa in April 2015.
