Liverpool started Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino for the first time together in their pre-season win over Wigan on Sunday.

The attacking trio helped Liverpool beat the Latics 2-0 in the pre-season friendly as goals from Danny Ings and 16-year-old Ben Woodburn settled the game.

Coutinho and Mane featured for just the opening 45 minutes while Firmino had the opportunity to play the full game at the DW Stadium.

The trinity of attacking talent produced some quality link-ups and demonstrated impressive individual ability throughout the game, with Coutinho notably slamming the crossbar woth a free-kick.

The forward thinking group combined to score 38 goals and provide 27 assists in all competitions last season and hit the ground running in the club’s third pre-season fixture.

The star forwards are yet to link up with Daniel Sturridge but have already begun the process of developing chemistry and understanding with each other ahead of the 2016-17 Premier League season.

Liverpool have now started their pre-season fixture-list in the best possible fashion after a ruthless finish from the returning Danny Ings gave Klopp’s side a 1-0 against Tranmere, before following that up with a 5-0 win against Fleetwood Town four days ago.

The game against Wigan took place just 24 hours after the Latics faced Manchester United as part of their pre-season preparations.

In other Liverpool news, the Reds are close to wrapping up three new signings, according to a reliable Merseyside journalist.
