Martin Skrtel celebrated his part in a victory against Manchester United on Instagram and had a special message for Liverpool fans.
The centre-back helped Fenerbahce record a thrilling 2-1 victory against United at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium on Thursday evening and claimed it was made even sweeter because it was against his former club’s arch rivals.
The Slovakian left Anfield this summer after falling out of favour with Jurgen Klopp following a string of poor personal performances.
He joined Fenerbahce for £5 million in July but proved he still has Liverpool in his heart after spending eight years with the club.
Skrtel is the second former Liverpool player to taste a sweet victory against United as Dirk Kuyt captained Feyenoord in September as they defeated Jose Mourinho’s side 1-0.
Skrtel, 31, made 320 appearances in total for Liverpool and scored 18 goals, though he never recorded a goal against United.
During his peak, Skrtel formed a fine partnership with Daniel Agger in the centre of Liverpool’s defence, particularly between 2007 and 2009.
