David Luiz is set to undergo a medical as he edges closer to a sensational return to Chelsea, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports presenter Jim White has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Brazil international is going to take a medical in London at 6pm on Wednesday.

This gives Chelsea a short turnaround to complete the transfer of Luiz by the 11pm transfer cut-off.

The well-connected White is famed for his deadline-day coverage as the host of Sky Sports News in the final hours of the window.

Reports are gathering momentum that Luiz could be the headline deal of the last day of the summer transfer window.

Luiz originally joined Chelsea from Portuguese giants Benfica in a £21.2million move in January 2011.

The centre-back then quit Stamford Bridge for PSG in 2014 for a world-record £50million defender fee, but he is understood to be homesick in the French capital and closing in on a £32million return.

He made 143 appearances for the London side during his three-year stay winning the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League.

Following his mega-money move to France he has played in 85 fixtures, including starts in all three of PSG’s Ligue 1 matches in the new campaign.

Luiz, 29, still has two years left on his contract in France, but it is believed that he has his heart set on a return to London with Antonio Conte’s side.

The Italian boss is keen to bring in a new centre-back this summer and has turned to Luiz after failing with bids for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and AC Milan’s Alessandro Romagnoli.

The London club currently have English duo John Terry and Gary Cahill occupying the centre-back positions with Kurt Zouma as backup.

In other football transfer news, Everton have had a £3million bid rejected for Ludogorets left-back Natanael Pimienta.
