Arsenal are set to lose out to London rivals Chelsea for the signing of midfielder N’Golo Kante, according to a report.

Arsene Wenger has previously expressed his admiration of the Frenchman, but it appears that rival manager Antonio Conte has won the race for thee 25-year-old.

French broadcaster RMC report that the Frenchman has agreed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge and will undergo a medical within the next 48 hours to complete a £30million move.

Leicester captured Kante for £5.6million last summer and his impressive performances last season have seen his worth increase excessively.

He made 40 appearances in all competitions and grabbed one goal in a league match against Watford. His constant running and energy is well-suited to the Premier League and he also proved he is surprisingly strong for a small figure.

Wenger will still have an array of talented midfielders in the squad already with the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshire, Mesut Ozil and most recently the arrival of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach to select from.

Arsenal begin their Premier League campaign against Liverpool but are set to be missing five key players for the opener.

In other Arsenal transfer news, Wenger has told his striker to find a new club as he does not have a future at the Emirates.
