West Ham are closing in on the £20million signing of Swansea striker Andre Ayew, according to a report.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that the Ghana international is set to undergo a medical with the Hammers.

It is said that Ayew will not be involved for Swansea’s Premier League opener against Burnley on Saturday week as he is “very close” to joining West Ham.

This comes after Sky Sports claimed last weekend that West Ham had followed up an initial inquiry for the 26-year-old with a formal bid of £20million.

The Swansea hitman scored 12 goals in his debut season in the Premier League and has attracted the attentions of the Hammers during their extensive their search for a top class striker.

Ayew was thought to have interested West Ham last summer before eventually joining Swansea on a free transfers.

The Ghana international signed a four-year deal when he arrived, but could now be on his way out the door after West Ham met Swansea’s valuation of the player.

West Ham have been very public in their pursuit of a top drawer frontman this summer and have reportedly failed in bids to bring the likes of AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca, Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Michy Batshuayi to the club.

Swansea have now decided whether to accept the offer and are said to be eager to secure attacking reinforcements.

In other West Ham news, one Hammer has signed a new long-term deal with the club after his impressive displays at Euro 2016.
