Liverpool have not made a bid for Brazilian star Luan, according to a report.

Brazilian publication Globo Esporte claim that no offer has come in for the attacker, despite reports of a £29.5million bid from Liverpool over the weekend.

South American broadcaster Futebol da Gaucha had tweeted on Sunday that the Reds had come in with a sensational bid for the Gremio star, but these claims have been squashed by the Brazilian club’s president.

The 23-year-old lit up the Rio 2016 Olympics this summer, scoring three goals in six appearances, with another three assists, as he starred alongside Neymar.

The hosts beat Germany 5-4 on penalties in the final, after drawing 1-1 in normal time, to secure their first men’s Olympic football gold medal. Luan scored his penalty and Neymar added the winning kick to secure the gold medal after Germany’s Nils Petersen had his penalty saved.

Gremio president Romildo Bozan has ensured fans that he wants to keep hold of their star man, as they aim for the Brazilian title this year.

“We have received no proposal for Luan,” said Gremio as quoted by Globo Esporte. “Gremio wants to keep its best players as we hope to end the year with a title.”

The attacker joined the Gremio youth ranks in 2013 from Catanduvense.

Gremio’s number seven enjoyed a successful campaign last season, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 22 encounters across all competitions.

Luan, who has two years remaining on his contract, has hit the back of the net 20 times in all competitions since making his Gremio debut in 2014.

In other Liverpool transfer news, the Reds have rejected a host of bids for this striker.
