Paul Merson has claimed Jamie Vardy has failed to give Arsenal an answer because he is concerned whether he fits into the team’s style of play, according to a report.

In his Sky Sports column, the former Arsenal man believes that Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of the Leicester striker, whose 24 goals last season fired the Foxes to a memorable Premier League title, is baffling.

“It doesn’t fit with me. Arsenal don’t get the ball forward quickly enough. I don’t get the transfer, I really don’t get it.” said Merson.

The Sky Sports pundit, who made 425 appearances for the London club, believes that the 29-year-old is questioning his move to the Emirates.

“I think Vardy is really thinking whether Arsenal would suit him. If that wasn’t the case he would have signed straight away, he wouldn’t have had to talk to anyone about it as Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world. There has got to be a reason (for the delay).”

The former non-league striker, who is currently on England duty for the European Championships in France had a £20million clause activated by the Gunners, but has yet to decide on a move from the King Power stadium to North London.

Despite finishing as runners-up to Leicester last season, Arsene Wenger’s side lack of goals up front cost them their first Premier League title in 12 years even though top scorer Oliver Giroud scored 24 in all competitions.
