Per Mertesacker has revealed his fellow centre-back partner Laurent Koscielny is the difference for Arsenal.

German defender Mertesacker believes the France international’s “determination” and “belief” is of huge help to the north London club.

Arsene Wenger’s side are currently flying high, having recorded five wins on the bounce in all competitions and being unbeaten in their last nine fixtures.

Koscielny has been an integral figure for the club’s recent form, as he missed his side’s only defeat of the season on the opening day with a 4-3 loss against Liverpool.

The 31-year-old received high praise from his senior teammate, who is currently out of first-team action due to a knee injury.

“Laurent makes the difference for us,” Mertesacker told the club’s official Twitter account. “His determination and belief [is what makes him standout]”

Two-time FA Cup winner Koscielny helped his national side reach the finals of Euro 2016 on home soil in the summer, before they were beaten after extra-time by Portugal.

Since his return to domestic football the Frenchman has built a strong centre-back partnership with summer signing Shkodran Mustafi.

The Gunners have kept three clean sheets in their last six games, and picked up five wins, with Koscielny being at the heart of the action.

He scored a controversial last-gasp goal prior to the international break to help the Gunenrs to third in the league table with 16 points.
