Mesut Ozil welcomed back Olivier Giroud on Twitter after he came off the substitutes bench during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Reading in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

Arsene Wenger’s side progressed through to the quarter-final stage, with Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain netting a brace as striker Giroud assisted the second goal.

France international Giroud played 24 minutes, following his return from a toe injury he suffered against PSG during the Gunners Champions League fixture in September.

Playmaker Ozil, who was one of a number of first-team players rested by manager Wenger for the League Cup clash, expressed his delight at the win and Giroud’s return.

Giroud has played five Premier League, Champions League and EFL Cup games this term, but is yet to start a game or find the back of the net.

Alexis Sanchez has been principally utilised in a forward role, where he has scored six goals in 12 appearances in all competitions.

Wenger’s side are unbeaten in their last 13 games, with their last defeat coming on the opening day of the Premier League season, when they lost 4-3 to Liverpool at the Emirates stadium.

As a result the north London club are second in the league table with 20 points, level on points with first place Manchester City and the Reds, who are third.

In other Arsenal team news, supporters on Twitter voiced their concern following Lucas Perez’s performance in the 2-0 win over Reading.
