Mesut Ozil has described Arsenal’s last-gasp 1-1 draw against Manchester United as a “crucial point”.

Olivier Giroud came off the substitute’s bench to head fellow sub Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s superb curling cross past a helpless David De Gea in the 89th minute, and maintain the Gunners’ unbeaten run since their opening day defeat against Liverpool.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, Ozil claimed that Arsenal had not been at their best but was delighted to earn a point.

Despite starting the season for the Gunners in magnificent form, Arsenal’s number 11 was well marshalled by United’s defence in a game dominated by the home side.

The 28-year-old had previously scored seven goals in 14 league and cup appearances, but looked a shadow of his previous self¬†this season as United’s defence held firm.

Spaniard Juan Mata had put Jose Mourinho’s side in front with a well-timed finish in the 68th minute, but Arsenal stole a point at Old Trafford to keep them within one point of league leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal now face Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in Group A of the Champions League, but may look to rest players after already qualifying with wins against Ludogorets and FC Basel.

In other Arsenal news, Giroud has also given his verdict on Arsenal’s display following the 1-1 draw.
