Michael Owen has predicted that both teams will score when Liverpool take on Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

TV pundit Owen believes Reds summer departure Christian Benteke should get a warm reception from the away fans, as he welcomes his old teammates to Selhurst Park.

Striker Benteke left Merseyside for London, when Palace boss Alan Pardew signed the Belgium international for a fee of £30 million.

Now, former Liverpool and Manchester United forward Owen has given his thoughts on the weekend fixture.

“Christian Benteke is sure to get a warm reception from the travelling Liverpool supporters,” Owen wrote in his BetVictor column.

“It should be remembered it was only back in May when he scored the winning goal in the last minute for 10-man Liverpool in the corresponding fixture last season against Palace at Selhurst Park.

“The Eagles haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 14 PL games and I think there will be goals; my heart says Liverpool will shade it but my head says there will be goals at both ends of the pitch.”

Jurgen Klopp’s men progressed through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Tuesday night, when they beat Tottenham 2-1.

The Reds are in scintillating form this season, winning seven of their last eight fixtures, largely thanks to the attacking quartet of Phillippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana.

As a result they are third in the table with 20 points from nine games, level with Manchester City and Arsenal, who are first and second respectively going into this weekend’s fixtures.

In other Liverpool team news, supporters on Twitter have urged manager Jurgen Klopp to axe this regular for their in-form striker.
