Michael Owen has claimed that Anthony Martial is a shadow of the player who made such an impact in his debut season at Manchester United.

TV pundit Owen also tore into senior players Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo for their underwhelming performances this season.

The former Liverpool and United striker delivered a scathing verdict on Jose Mourinho’s side after they lost 2-1 to Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Premier League giants have lost two of their last four matches and won just two of their last seven fixtures in all competitions.

Owen was less than impressed with the display against the Turkish side and does not expect things to get better anytime soon.

“[Marcos] Rojo is not good enough, full stop,” Owen told broadcaster BT Sport‘s live coverage of the match on Thursday night.

“[Paul] Pogba has cost an absolute king’s ransom and he’s obviously injured and not found his feet yet. Wayne Rooney, confidence is a big issue.

“He’s not going to get any better now. Scored a goal tonight, let’s hope that that’s a bonus for him. [Anthony] Martial, last season great, but is he doing anything now?”

Martial scored 17 goals for United last season following his 2015 transfer from Monaco but has followed up with just two strikes from 12 matches in all competitions in the new campaign.

In other Liverpool news, the asking price for an in-demand Brazilian forward has risen to £68million.
