Simon Mignolet has issued an apology on Twitter following his clash with Tottenham star Vincent Janssen during their international clash on Wednesday.

Mignolet lined up in goal as Holland hosted his Belgium side during a 1-1 draw in the international friendly but was involved as Janssen went off injured.

Mignolet showed determination as he challenged the striker in an aerial duel and the keeper accidentally punched Janssen on his follow through.

The Dutch striker suffered following the impact and spent a while on the ground before he was substituted after 25 minutes and is now a doubt to face Luxembourg on Sunday.

Janssen could miss the World Cup qualifier but Mignolet insisted it was not intentional despite the rivalry between his and the Dutchman’s Premier League clubs.

Liverpool and Tottenham are both in the running to win the league, with the Merseysiders currently topping the table while Spurs are chasing in fifth place.

Earlier this season, the two sides drew 0-0 at White Hart Lane and Mignolet and Janssen both featured though the two players are now struggling to get into the starting XI for their clubs.

In other Liverpool news, Ben Woodburn posted a message on Twitter after signing his first professional contract with the club.
