Everton midfielder Kevin Mirallas has made a bold statement after claiming his side can compete for a top three position, a Belgian journalist from HLN Sport reports.
Mirallas also claimed Romelu Lukaku could be the key to their success and hopes the Belgian forward can maintain his early goal-scoring form.
The Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in Europe but Mirallas believes Everton can achieve great results.
The reporter tweeted that Mirallas had said, “We have a team that can compete for the top 3. Certainly, if Lukaku keeps on scoring. #efc”

Lukaku has already scored five goals and clinched an assist in just six league appearances for Everton this season.
The 23 year-old currently sits behind Diego Costa as the league’s top goal scorer but Lukaku has one of the best conversion rates, scoring a goal per every 95 minutes of action.
Only Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Tottenham’s Son Heung-min have a better goal-scoring rate than Lukaku.
Clearly, the striker is important to Everton’s success and he has proven his value since joining on a permanent contract from Chelsea in July 2014 for £28 million.
The striker was central to much transfer speculation this summer after revealing he wanted to leave Everton in order to further his career.
The Belgian international scored 25 goals for the Toffees last season and Ronald Koeman was eager to keep the striker.
After John Stones completed a summer move to Manchester City, it became even more pressing for Everton to prevent Lukaku from leaving.
The striker’s talent is unquestionable but despite scoring 25 goals, he was unable to improve Everton’s disappointing 11th place finish in the Premier League during the 2015-16 season.
It’s for this reason that Mirallas’ claims that Everton can finish in the top three this year seem even more far-fetched, especially considering they’re big outsiders.
However, Toffees’ fans will be hoping Mirallas’ confidence can be mirrored on the pitch and with Lukaku in fine goal-scoring form, Everton have looked bright so far.
