Garry Monk believes Norwich are the “favourites” to win the Championship title this season as Leeds prepare to take on Alex Neill’s side in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

The Whites welcome the Canaries to Elland Road, with a place in the quarter-final of the League Cup up for grabs.

Norwich are fourth in the Championship table, with 27 points from 14 games, four points a drift of league leaders and bookies favourites Newcastle.

But, Monk has praised his opponents squad ahead of the midweek fixture by backing them to win the Championship this season.

“For me, they’re my favourite team to win the league this year,” said Monk, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post. “They have to be favourites. I know Newcastle are up there as well but Norwich kept a lot of the squad that came down from the Premier League.

“They’ve added good players in the summer too so it’s going to be interesting and it’ll be a good gauge for us to test ourselves and see how far we’ve come.

“They’ve got the squad whatever they do to be really strong. They’ve got plenty of players to choose from and they’re the favourites for those reason.”

Norwich beat Premier League outfit Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park on their way to the Round of 16 stage.

Meanwhile, Monk’s side beat fellow Championship rivals Blackburn 1-0 on home soil, as they are unbeaten at Elland Road in the last five fixtures in all competitions.

In other Leeds team news, supporters on Twitter have recalled how close Karl Robinson came to being appointed their manager following his sacking by MK Dons.
