Garry Monk has said that Leeds were “clinical” in their 2-0 win over Cardiff.

Leeds secured three points in the Championship away fixture and kept just their second clean sheet of the season in the process.

Second-half goals from Chris Wood and Pablo Hernandez gave the Whites their second consecutive victory, after beating Blackburn 2-1 in mid-week, and helped them move away from the relegation zone.

Leeds boss Monk expressed his delight with the victory and claimed that his team deserved the three points, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

“We deserved the win today,” he said. “We were clinical when we needed to be and defender well when we need to.”

Wood replaced Marcus Antonsson in the starting line up to spearhead the attack and he converted a penalty after Pontus Jansson was fouled in the box.

Despite an even first-half, in which both sides struggled in front of goal, Leeds enjoyed a much stronger second period and Hernandez made sure of the points late on.

The result leaves Cardiff stranded in the relegation zone with just five points after their first eight games.
