Jose Mourinho plans to reshuffle his Manchester United side this summer to place Juan Mata’s future at Old Trafford in fresh doubt, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim that there are now question marks over a number of players including Everton target Mata after the Spain international and others have been told that they are unlikely to be regular starters next season.
The 28-year-old’s future has been in doubt since Mourinho’s arrival and it was also reported by French journalist Flora Moussy that Everton had made a £21million move for the highly-rated midfielder.
Mata was sold to United when Mourinho was Chelsea boss and it is believed that the pair met last Monday before the club flew out on their pre-season tour in China.
It is reported that Mata will see how the season develops rather than rushing into any decision regarding his future, but the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and potential addition of Paul Pogba alongside Wayne Rooney moving to a midfield position will all play a part in limiting the former Chelsea midfielder’s playing time.
Mata was left out of Spain’s Euro 2016 squad, despite scoring 10 goals and supplying 11 assists for a defensive minded team last season.
The 28-year-old won back-to-back Chelsea player of the year awards in 2012 and 2013 while at Stamford Bridge, when he was widely recognised as one of the best attacking players in the Premier League.
New Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is still looking to make his first senior outfield signing, but it has been reported on Sunday by the Mail that the Toffees have had a £25million bid for Zenit midfielder Axel Witsel accepted.
In other Everton transfer news, Napoli will hold fresh talks with Kalidou Koulibaly in a bid to persuade him to snub Premier League interest.
