John Arne Riise has posted a stinging response on Twitter after ex-Liverpool star Mario Balotelli claimed Nice have the best fans of all the clubs he has played for.
A flop at Anfield, Balotelli has rediscovered his goalscoring touch in France with high flying Nice as his goals propel Nice to the top of Ligue 1.
Speaking to French media, Balotelli revealed that Nice’s support is better than the fanbases of Liverpool, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Manchester City.
“Frankly, out of all the clubs that I have played for, Nice’s supporters are the best I’ve ever seen,” Balotelli told Telefoot on Sunday, as quoted by L’Equipe.“It’s cool, I am happy when people like me.”
However, Liverpool icon Riise was not impressed with Balotelli’s comments, posting on his personal Twitter account in response to the Premier League winner’s claims.
Riise, now with Indian Super League club Chennaiyin FC, claimed that Nice’s fans will never be able to compete with the noise made on the terraces at Anfield.
Balotelli, 26, has scored seven goals in nine games for Nice since his free transfer from Liverpool in the summer as he continues to prove the Merseyside giants that they were wrong to let him go.
The Italy international endured a dismal stay at Anfield, scoring just four goals in 28 league and cup appearances.
Riise, 36, is in India for his second spell after leaving Liverpool in 2008 following a seven-year stint on Merseyside, where he made 339 league and cup appearances and scored 30 goals.
The left-footed star has also played for Roma, Delhi Dynamos and Fulham during a 20-year long career.
