Neville Southall believes that Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.

The English top-flight is blessed with several top-class shot stoppers including Thibaut Courtois, David De Gea and Petr Cech.

Lloris is enjoying another fine season and has kept six clean sheets in 15 appearances across all competitions.

The 29-year-old is regarded as Spurs’ number one ahead of Michel Vorm and is a crucial reason behind the best defensive record in the Premier League this season.

Former Everton and Wales goalkeeper Southall is confident that Lloris is the best and also highlighted Stoke’s 23-year-old Jack Butland.

“I think Lloris is by far the best one – by far,” Southall told Goal. “Courtois at Chelsea is up there. Butland, when fit, is decent. The rest of them? De Gea is the next one.

“Definitely Lloris is top, I can’t see past him. Jack Butland, De Gea, Courtois, those are the four.”

Lloris completed his move to White Hart Lane in 2012 from French side Lyon and is now the club’s captain.

The France international is one of the most consistent performers in Mauricio Pocehttino’s side and has impressed once again this season.

He delivered a man-of-the-match display in the 2-1 defeat against Monaco as Spurs were eliminated from the Champions League, but spared his side a hammering with a number of top quality saves.

Lloris has made 183 appearances for the north London club and kept an impressive 63 clean sheets.

The goalkeeper is a phenomenal shot stopper and is also comfortable in possession, something that is important in Pochettino’s style.

In other Tottenham news, Paul Merson has made a bold claim about Pochettino’s future.
