New West Ham signing Andre Ayew has claimed that his friend Dimitri Payet will have an even better second season at the club.

The 26-year-old former Swansea player played with Payet at Marseille for two-years between 2013 and 2015.

Ayew joined the east London side for a club record £20.5million fee on Monday and he has spoken highly of the France international star after he lit up England’s top flight last season.

“We have a very good relationship, he’s a friend,” said Ayew to Sky Sports.

“I’m happy to be in the same squad as him. He’s a great player, he has great quality.

“I’m not surprised with what he did last season because I even know he is going to do more this season, he has the quality to do more.

“With him, and all the other guys who have come in, with Feghouli, I had to take my time, have a discussion with the manager, he made me understand what he wanted.”

Payet wowed Premier League fans last campaign with 15 goals and 17 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions.

The attacking midfielder joined the Hammers from Marseille and soon became a fan favourite winning the club’s player of the year as well as being named in the Premier League PFA Team of the Year.

It didn’t stop there for Payet either and the West Ham star shone for his country at Euro 2016 this summer playing in seven encounters for his national side scoring three goals and helping France reach the final of the tournament.

Slaven Bilic has looked to improve on his Hammers side which finished seventh last season and alongside Ayew he has also brought in Sofiane Feghouli, Gokhan Tore and Havard Nordtveit along with five others.
