Newcastle flop Flovian Thauvin has personally phoned his former manager Marcelo Bielsa to secure a transfer to Lazio, according to a report.
Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport claim the £12million signing from Marseille is keen to be reunited with Bielsa in Serie A.
It is said Newcastle want to recoup £11.4million for Thavin even though he has had a wretched year since joining from Ligue 1.
However, Lazio would prefer to sign the 23-year-old on a season-long loan with an option to buy for £10.6million.
As reported by Football Insider, Thuavin wants to leave Newcastle this summer after returning from a loan spell with Marseille,.
Thauvin, 23, arrived on Tyneside from Marseille during last summer’s transfer window for £12million but failed to score or create any league goals before he was loaned back out to the Ligue 1 club for the second half of the 2015-16 campaign.
The attacking midfielder is reportedly keen to move away from Tyneside permanently after returning from a loan spell when he played 16 times in the league, scoring twice.
Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League this season and look likely to lose a number of the high-profile signings they have made of the last few years.
Thauvin has four years remaining on his Newcastle contract and the club could be ready to offload him after he turned out to be one of the flops of the Premier League season.
The winger’s League Cup displays left a bittersweet taste of what might have been, as the two appearances he made in the competition saw him notch one and create two strikes for his team mates in just two ties.
However, Thauvin failed to translate that form into the Premier League where the Frenchman made 13 appearances without supplying the decisive pass or finish.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the club are in talks to sign a 24-year-old and are ready to trigger his release clause.
