Newcastle are close to adding the signings of striker Dwight Gayle and winger Matt Ritchie to new boy Matz Sels, according to reports.

Goalkeeper Sels was confirmed as the Magpies’ first summer signing on Tuesday morning after completing a £5million transfer from Belgian side Gent.

Tyneside publication Chronicle claims Gayle is set to join him at St James’ Park following a breakthrough in talks between Newcastle and Crystal Palace.

It is said that the 25-year-old forward is close to finalising a £10million transfer from Palace and a deal could be completed within the next 24 hours.

The Mirror report Newcastle are now on the verge of clinching a triple swoop by landing Bournemouth wide player Ritchie.

The 26-year-old is in advanced talks to join the Magpies for £12million after accepting the club’s offer to drop down a division.

Ritchie scored four goals and provided six assists as he featured in all but one of Bournemouth’s Premier League games this season and proved himself an integral part of Eddie Howe’s side.

He has been targeted as a replacement for Andros Townsend. The north-east giants fear the departure of Townsend is inevitable, given that he has a £12million release clause in his contract and there is a stampede for his signature led by Palace.

Gayle has spent much of the 2015-16 season on the periphery at Selhurst Park and featured in just 20 games, scoring seven and assisting one along the way.

The Palace number 16 started his footballing career at Stansted before moves to Dagenham & Redbridge and Peterborough lead him to Palace, where he scored 15 goals in 27 starts in two seasons.

In other Newcastle news, Rafael Benitez has claimed it has been “impossible” to sign players before the start of pre-season friendlies.
