Newcastle are in talks to sign Champions League target man Bas Dost from Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg, according to a report.
The 27-year-old Holland international is set to leave the Volkswagon Stadion with less than 12 months remaining on his current deal.
HITC Sport claim that the former Heerenveen goal-getter could be persuaded to drop to the second division of English football, as the Magpies eye an instant return to the top flight.
The report also claims that Premier league trio West Ham, Everton and Champions Leicester are keen on Dost, who is known for his impressive aerial prowess.
The goal machine has 125 professional goals to his name in 279 league and cup encounters, with 36 coming in a Wolfsburg shirt.
It’s not the first time that the Toon have been interested in Dost’s signature, as the report states that Dost has been on Newcastle’s radar for a couple of years.
Dost struggled to make an impact last term, making just 22 starts in league and cup encounters. The forward did manage to score 10 goals, with one strike coming in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven.
Dost’s rise to prominence came the season before, where he scored an impressive 20 goals in 36 appearances, adding another seven in assists.
However, a broken metatarsal kept Dost out for around four months last term after Christmas, and the recent signing of Germany star Mario Gomez has pushed Wolfsburg’s number 12 down the pecking order.
Newcastle have been increasingly active in the transfer market this summer, making eight new signings. They include Premier League stars Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diame and Dwight Gayle.
