Rafa Benitez will look to reshuffle his pack once again, with Ciaran Clark making way for captain Jamaal Lascelles at the heart of Newcastle’s defence.
Debutant Clark gave away a penalty during his sides 4-1 victory against Reading on Wednesday night, when the £5million summer signing brought down John Swift in a rash fashion.
Lascelles was dropped to the bench for Bentiez’ first win as Newcastle boss this season, after back-to-back defeats against Fulham and Huddersfield.
Holland international Daryl Janmaat will be expected to return at right-back, after Vurnon Anita started in the win against Reading.
Fan favourite Alexander Mitrovic will continue to serve his four-match ban, as striker Dwight Gayle will look to continue his scoring run after three goals in his last two games.
France international Moussa Sissoko will most likely sit out, as the 27-year-old recovers from an ankle injury, with the attacking midfielder looking for a move away from St James’ Park.
Benitez may decide to freshen up his midfield after Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden started two games in 5 days for the Magpies, with Jack Colback likely to take one of their places.
The club’s £12 million signing Matt Ritchie will look to add to his first goal for the club in midweek, after being dropped in the previous home fixture against Huddersfield.
Newcastle last met Bristol City in the Championship in 2009-10, when the two sides shared the spoils at Ashton Gate.
Over 21,000 fans are expected at Ashton Gate on Saturday, which will be the club’s biggest crowd in over 20 years.
Lee Johnson’s side have picked up two wins this season, but they lost their first game of the season on Tuesday to recently relegated Norwich at Carrow Road.
