Newcastle supporters were left baffled on Twitter as captain Jamaal Lascelles was left on the substitutes bench as manager Rafa Bentiez tries to find a winning formula as they take on Reading at St James Park.
The Spaniard is still looking for his first win in the Championship after signing nine players during the summer to help his promotional charge.
Supporters were already aware that midfielder Moussa Sissoko will not be in the match day squad as he misses out with an ankle injury, with his future looking uncertain.
However, they were not too pleased with some of Benitez’ changes as £5million summer signing Ciaran Clark makes his debut at the heart of the club’s defence.
The Toon Army were left baffled by his decision to include Yoan Gouffran in the starting line-up, as many voiced their discontent at the manager’s decision making.
But there were others who were willing to wait until the final whistle to judge the team, as winger Matt Ritchie returns to the starting fold having been dropped for the previous game.
Here are the reactions of supporters on Twitter.

Wow. Some interesting changes for #nufc. Glad to see Janmaat dropped. No doubt result of this game is already Gouffran's fault…
