Steve McClaren is being interviewed at Derby on Wednesday – and Newcastle fans have reacted hilariously to the news on Twitter.
Sky Sports report on their official Twitter account that the former England manager is being interviewed at Derby following the sacking of Nigel Pearson.
McClaren, 55, previously managed the Rams between 2013-15 but could be handed the opportunity to return.
McClaren’s last job in management was with Newcastle and he was sacked in March.
Newcastle were stranded in the relegation places of the Premier League and had won just six out of 28 league games, which ultimately cost McClaren his job.
His successor, Rafael Benitez could not save the Magpies from relegation but has remained at St James’ Park this season and is mounting a serious promotion push.
Newcastle fans have voiced their strong opinion on Twitter and have mocked the potential appointment.
Here are a selection of the messages:
Derby have made a disappointing start to the season and Pearson’s short reign was ended.
His number two Chris Powell is in temporary charge as caretaker manager and is in line to manage the club’s fixture against Leeds on Saturday.
Newcastle host Brentford on Saturday and will hope to make it three consecutive league wins.
In other Newcastle news, they have been handed a major boost as their senior player is set to return for Brentford.
