Ayoze Perez delivered a poor display against Brighton in Newcastle’s 2-0 victory on Saturday – and supporters of the north east club took to Twitter to heckle the Spaniard.
The Spanish forward started the match upfront on his own after striker duo Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle missed the encounter due to a six-day concussion rule.
The 23-year-old attacker was criticised for being too lightweight and having a poor first touch, despite the Tyneside club’s victory.
Rafa Benitez’s side took an early lead from captain Jamaal Lascelles heading home a free-kick delivery, while midfielder Jonjo Shelvey curled in a free-kick.
Perez played the full 90 minutes of the Championship clash at St James’ Park, but fans spent large parts of the game wishing he was not on the field.
Here are a selection of the fans messages on Twitter:
Can we take off Perez and put someone else on please, anyone. #NUFC

This is the third league match of the Championship campaign that the former Spain Under-21 has started.
He has been criticised by fans on Twitter before for being too lightweight and the Championship is well known for it’s high physicality.
However, he did score two goals in the midweek 2-0 victory over League Two side Cheltenham in the EFL Cup.
After starting the season with two defeats, Toon supporters will now be happy that they have turned their new campaign around with three consecutive league wins taking them up to fourth place.
In other Newcastle team news, Coventry City have signed midfielder Gael Bigirimana in a permanent deal.
