Newcastle’s Twitter following have called on manager Rafa Benitez to give Aleksandar Mitrovic a run in the side after scoring twice for his country.
Serbia recorded a priceless victory in their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Austria on Sunday night, with the Toon’s number 45 scoring a first-half double to earn a 3-2 win in Group D.
Mitrovic has struggled to secure a regular starting spot in Benitez’s starting eleven this season, with the Spaniard implementing a vigorous rotation policy that has seen Dwight Gayle and Daryl Murphy start over Mitrovic.
The 22-year-old has made just six appearances in all competitions for the Magpies this term, starting just twice and scoring one goal in the emphatic 6-0 win over QPR.
Despite this, fans believe it is time for Benitez to give Mitrovic more of a chance after impressing on the international stage.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
And while were on the subject of internationals, i hate them and Mitrovic is machine.

By the sounds of it, it looks like Mitrovic is raring to prove himself at #nufc after demolishing Austria. Go on Rafa, give him a chance.

The Serbian goal machine is entering his second season on Tyneside after moving to Newcastle last summer, and is known for his fiery temper which saw him receive two red cards last term.
He became the Magpies’ vocal point up front during their fight against relegation, scoring nine goals in 36 league and cup appearances but was unable to prevent Newcastle’s relegation.
In other Newcastle news, this senior Newcastle star has called on his side to avoid complacency against Brentford.
