Newcastle fans have reacted with shock on Twitter after Jonjo Shelvey was charged with making a racist comment to a Wolves player.
The 24-year-old star allegedly made the comment against the Midlands outfit during the Toon’s 2-0 loss on September 17, in the 87th minute.
Shelvey has been charged by The Football Association, and could face a minimum of a five-match ban which would see him miss vital matches against Leeds, Nottingham Forest and Hull in the quarter final of the EFL Cup.
The former Liverpool and Charlton star has been given until November 16 to respond to the charges, but is yet to respond.
Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter in complete shock to the news, with many disappointed with the England international.
Some fans have even called for the return of Joey Barton to replace Shelvey, who is set to mutually end his contract with Rangers.

Looks like Shelvey might be getting a ban for while which is gutting but racism in football needs to be completely stamped out #NUFC

Meh, let Shelvey be banned if it's true, sign Joey Barton to a short term deal. Problem solved #NUFC

One fan has claimed that if the former Liverpool and Charlton is found guilty of racially abusing a Wolves player, then he should not be allowed to play for Newcastle again.
If, and it's a big if, Shelvey is found guilty of racism towards another player he shouldn't wear our shirt again #nufc

Shelvey allegedly committed an “Aggravated Breach” of Rule E3(1) as defined in Rule E3(2), because it included reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or nationality.
Alongside the likes of midfielders Isaac Hayden, Jack Colback or Vurnon Anita, Shelvey has made 19 appearances and scored three goals for the league leaders as well as providing six strikes in assists.
